How Children Can Benefit From Audiobooks: An Infographic

Many people remember a parent, grandparent, or teacher reading books aloud as one of their first interactions with books. It is often remembered fondly, as an experience that formed a foundational bond with the person reading aloud. Listening to stories in audiobook format has gained traction with adults in recent years with audiobook subscription services like Audible making listening easy and readily available. More adults than ever are enjoying their favorite books in audio format while commuting to work, taking a walk, or making a long drive. Recently, there has been a huge rise in juvenile literature available in audiobook format, and I thought it would be important to explore the benefits of audiobooks for children.

As you can see, there are numerous benefits for children who listen to audiobooks. Consider adding a listening station, a tablet loaded with one of the many apps that allows children to listen to books, or a portable listening device in your classroom. Audiobooks are an engaging, meaningful way for children to experience literature.

SITES FOR CREATING INFOGRAPHICS:
When creating this infographic, I explored three different websites. Listed are the pros and cons of each.

1. Piktochart
Pros: Piktochart is easy to use, and has a fairly large amount of ready made templates available.
Cons: If there is not a template that suits your needs, creating from scratch can be overwhelming.

2. Infogram
Pros: Very similar design format as Piktochart, easy to use.
Cons: Not as many ready made templates available unless you upgrade to a paid subscription.

3. Easel.ly (What I used)
Pros: Pretty bare-bones design format, ready made templates available and easy to adjust elements to suit your needs
Cons: Extremely limited stock options for adding icons or pictures, unless you upload your own.

  1. Hi Stephanie,
I like that you separate your pros and cons list for each of the infographics from the rest of the article by putting the infographics in the middle. I also like that your infographic is a 2 for 1. It is especially helpful seeing the specific populations that audiobooks benefits.

    1. Your topic is great! Like you said audio books have become very popular and honestly they come in very handy. Everyone is on the go these days so an audio book makes it easy to listen to your favorite book at any time without having to stop what you are doing. They also help emergent readers because they can follow along with the text. Your infographic looks amazing great job!
