Learning Commons-Stephanie Kirkpatrick

Podcasts are a fun and creative way for students to present research, host discussions, conduct an interview, or entertain. They also allow students to listen to others' perspectives, spark ideas, and learn from people around the world. Using podcasts in your library instruction is an engaging way to present information or conduct an assignment in a way that is relevant to students.

I used Audacity to create this podcast on how libraries are transitioning into learning commons. I used Podbean to host my audio and publish my podcast. I have used Soundcloud and Anchor in the past to host my podcast, and to be honest- there isn't a whole lot of differences between these three platforms. They are all easy to use to upload and share your podcast with listeners. Soundcloud is probably my least favorite of the three, just because it can feel a little crowded with all the music and album art everywhere. All three platforms give suggestions of who you might like to follow, allow you to share with the click of a button, and have a maximum amount of free uploads before charging a subscription.

Audacity is a little more complicated, and it is a software so it requires a download, but it's free and with a quick search in Google you can easily find an answer to pretty much any question you may have. I have recorded audio and uploaded to platforms as a podcast before using Audacity, but this was my first time including an intro-song. I played around with it for a bit, and although it didn't turn out *exactly* as smooth as I wanted it, I think it worked out pretty well and overall gave the vibe that I wanted.

TED Talks Education and Better Library Leaders are two great educational podcasts to check out. There are many more if you search "education" on PodBean!

Give podcasting a try and share yours with me! I'd love to hear it :)

  1. I also love listening to TED Talks! In fact, if I were to create an educational podcast, I would definitely want to model it after this.

    1. Your Podcast was awesome good job! This has been one of the most challenging assignments for me because I hate recording my voice (I think it's very annoying). However they are a great platform to share information. I think I'll give podcasts a try and start listening to some.

  2. Stephanie,

I agree, I think Soundcloud and Podbean are both user-friendly and make it easy to upload your podcasts. I started out using Podbean, so I have always leaned more towards that program. I was disappointed that I was not able to explore Audioboom, since it requires you to pay for a monthly subscription in order for you to upload your podcasts.
